The Zero Tolerance Day takes place every year on the 6th of February to raise awareness for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). All over the world, activities and meetings are organized, including in the Netherlands – this year in Nijmegen. More info can be found here.
Istahil was born in Somalia, where the majority of girls undergo this practice (97.9%). In the video below, Istahil bravely shares with us what was done to her at the age of six. She also explains why she needed to undergo FGM, how she found out that she was ‘different’ and the consequences it had on her life. While sharing her story, she hopes to inspire young women to join forces and help end FGM worldwide.
